*Drum Roll*

Sorry we have taken so long to get back to you all regarding this, but nothing moves quickly when you dealing with tortoises. Never work with children of animals my old gaffer used to say.

;tldr
It has been decided that we will aim to move forward at +5 levels per quarter.

*Lengthy post incoming*
This will never be a rigid inflexible plan, but more a guideline so that we can plan ahead for the next 12/13 weeks. As with all plans when faced with the enemy.. they are subject to change.

The 1st of September would see us raise the cap to 65 and we enter Mirkwood, but as we are trying to complete stuff it seems we may need a few more weeks attempting to complete Dar Narbugud, which we would like to do at level 60. So our plan is to advance the quest line into Mirkwood Landing keeping the current level 60 cap until we complete DN which will bring its additional reward of a level raise to 65.

Mirkwood Landing in an instanced area much like Moria that requires us to complete quests before advancing. We shall be running that as a RP quest night the 6th September. The surrounding Wednesdays and possible Sundays will be for DN raids. Due to the raid locks resetting Wednesday, there will be the option of higher levels clearing the first few areas so we can attempt further bosses.

At a glance our future level raises look like this.

  • Sep 2017 - Nov 2017 [65] Mirkwood/Enedwaith (Questing + Clusters)
  • Dec 2017 - Feb 2018 [70] Rise of Isengard (Questing)
  • Mar 2018 - May 2018 [75] Great River (+RoI Instance Cluster)
  • Jun 2018 - Aug 2018 [80] Riders of Rohan (Questing)
  • Sep 2018 - Nov 2018 [85] Wildermore (+Hytbold + Warbands)
  • Dec 2018 - Feb 2019 [90] Helm's Deep (Questing)
  • Mar 2019 - May 2019 [95] Entwood (+Epic Battles)
  • Jun 2019 - Aug 2019 [100] Gondor (+Roving Threats)
  • Sep 2019 - Nov 2019 [105] Far Anórien, North Ithilien and The Wastes (+Pelennor Instances)
  • Dec 2019 - 2020 [105+] Mordor...

These 12 week blocks will be broken up into the corresponding Wednesdays with an attempt to plan ahead as much as we can so that people know what they will be logging into on an evening.. as apposed to logging in and then deciding what.

Given we cant say exactly when the next level raise will be.. the next few weeks will look something like this.

Wed 30th August - Dar Narbugud Raid (60)
Sun 3rd Sept - Dar Narbugud Raid (60)
Wed 6th Sept - RP Epic Mirkwood Landing (60)
Sun 10th Sept - Dar Narbugud (60)
Wed 13th Sept - Dar Narbugud (60)

If we have cracked it before then, we raise to 65. The next planned Wednesday would involve us being level 62 at least to do the Skirmish at Dannenglor, so really needs us to evaluate where we are and who will be available.

The plan would be to advance the timeline of where we are in the story on a monthly basis, but we really do have a lot of stuff to do at level 65, that we cant plan too far ahead as there is a lot of stuff that is level restricted during this period.

Sorry for the lengthy post. but we feel it is necessary. thanks all for your patience, and thanks to the officers for all their inputs.

The only question I have if all these "steps" are equal?
As I see our 65 is rather rich of things we have to do - we'll get x2 T2 raids!
But at 70 we'll have only questing months
So maybe it's better to spent 4 months for raid steps, but only 2 for questing steps?
I really hope that we won't be satisfied of only T1 raids and will do all that we can to win in T2

You should have been in our Officer discussions Hunfri. 8)
The quarterly blocks are guidelines. I doubt we will be level 70 before Xmas to be honest just because there is such a tonne of stuff to do at 65.

Regarding T2, whilst it might be a goal for some, we are not a raiding kin as such and I doubt many have the appetite to put in the work needed to beat all the raids at that level. I personally think we are doing great achieving what we do short manning everything.

P.S. I should not take credit for the outline of the plan as posted above as it was really Siggars fleshed out version of what we had discussed before.

We are going to try to plan the available weeks ahead with those blocks and if it looks like we need more or less we will adjust as such. If you note that the blocks that have 'Questing' as the main activity also coincide with Summer / Winter which is generally when the kin is quieter and not really a good time for getting all of us together for raids. (See this years summer)

It will be no surprise that I have named Siggar our kin 'Raid Leader' as that is what he excels at best. So he will be planning any upcoming raid events. If he feels that we can tackle a T2 raid then that will be his decision and we can all try. I will likely take the helm at the Epic Wednesdays as I enjoy seeing the story unfold.
Lir and Gwen will likely take up other 'events' hopefully running Deeds or Instances or just general questing. People should also not feel the need to wait for Officers to organise stuff. I usually see yourself and the rest of the kin organise impromtu events on non-Wednesdays too. That should be promoted more too I think.

I think you should as your above post is great!
(And I merely extended upon your suggestion that was based on Lir's idea so that it could serve as a potential guide-/timeline for the long-term future :P)

As for our dearest minstrel, Master Hunfri, content density will potentially alter the plan, of course, as J has suggested. We might go through the year with 3/3/3/3 or 4/2/4/2 or even 4/4/4 if we really get stuck on things. Looking at the content ahead and our pace up until now (taking the members' various playstyles into the equation) we felt that a 20 levels per annum approach is most reasonable. And the most hassle-free way to communicate, manage and break it down was an equal division.

As for Tier 2 difficulty World Instances and Raids, these aren't part of the Clubs' 'Main Menu' - if you allow your chef on duty to express himself in such way :)
Some of us have an appetite for those but it will probably be only served to the precious few as a 'Side' or 'Dessert'. T2 can be extremely demanding on multiple levels and the Turtles' primary focus have always been having fun while playing the story and T1 is perfect to tick those off.
I will encourage and (try my best to) guide Turtles that have a desire for such endeavours but I do not expect much more than a couple of 3-mans and the occasional 6-man in that regard. This is subject to change based on game updates, our numbers and level of preparedness of course but it's best not to get false hopes up...

Yours Best ;)

After having read through the recent posts and the club's plans for the future, I feel the need to express myself with honesty, cause I've known it to be the best approach.

As most of you know or have realized by now, I'm a more of a story driven person and on the RP side. Dedicating our main focus and Wednesdays for Epics and progressing the story all together is what I considered to be the very foundation that Club Slowtro was established on and the very reason that made me want to join in with excitement, which is why I believe our priorities should lie with story content and 'RP their way through Middle-Earth' as this site's description states and raids/instances should take a secondary-objective flag or side-quest flag if you wish to call it. Although, 'dessert' sounds very good as well!

However, I get that many of our members enjoy a raid/instance once in a while (occasionally myself as well) and when one is planned I will join in if I can and offer my assistance.

Now, regarding our short term plans:

Wed 30th August - Dar Narbugud Raid (60)
Sun 3rd Sept - Dar Narbugud Raid (60)
Wed 6th Sept - RP Epic Mirkwood Landing (60)
Sun 10th Sept - Dar Narbugud (60)
Wed 13th Sept - Dar Narbugud (60)

I will not be able to attend the Tortoise night at 6th, 10th and 13th of September. For RL reasons that are beyond my power (will make a post as well soon in Leave of absence thread) I must go away from Wednesday 6th till Thursday 14th. The RP Mirkwood Landing is something that I would very much like to attend. So I humbly ask that it is set for another date. I know it is something that has been already decided, so this might make my request look kinda selfish, I understand that. If you do not decide upon a change, I'm perfectly fine. BUT, if you do decide upon a change, I would like it to be unanimous. Even if one person objects to that, the change should not be made.

That's all. Thank you for taking the time to read this :)

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the 6th either (night shift).
So my proposition to you Thala would be to add a 'Second Wave' event for the calendar at a time that suits you or pm me about a couple of possible times and I can put it up if you don't feel comfortable ;)
I would be very happy to RP it with you and whoever else that wishes to join us having missed the 6th!

Yours Best

great thread and its so good to see so many passionate about future turtle activity =)

clearly the officers have been discussing this at some length already but i for one am more than open to suggestions from all.

on T2 i do agree these are unlikely to ever be core turtle business - i'd be happy to look at opportunistically running these as threes or sixes in the main - perhaps we could seek some sort of alliance with a raiding kin if there's enough strength of feeling on running this sort of content....? i am happy to run T2 stuff with Lir in an experimental manner and see how we go over our Mirkwood years

on the epic and rping our way through middle earth - this is for me at the very core of club slowtro but i also think its fair to say some are more enthused by rp than others.....? i think the plan for the next few weeks looks very raid-centric and therefore away from our core purpose but think this is skewed just by the point of the content/story we have arrived at - i'd expect more 'balance' once DN is 'dealt with'.

finally i am supportive of any plea to move events so people can be there for their 'favourite' bits (as long as it can reasonably be accommodated). Thala and anyone else interested can i suggest we start another thread on how to maximise our rp experience in slowtro - think we need to identify key points in Mirkwood that we'd like to rp and also consider how to add bits to instance content without jeopardising the run - i liked Gwen's travel to entrance first time rule/suggestion for example. If you'd be willing to help shape our engagement with rp (by posting events/ideas for example) then i know i for one would really welcome it =)

First of all, let me say that seeing how fast and how accurate your response was has put a big smile on my face, mostly because once again you remind me of how active and helpful our members are to each other :)

Now, as far as the event goes. If I understood correctly Sig, you're suggesting of having a company enter Mirkwood at the beginning (say Duralagos, Kasey, Hunfri and Lirduiniel for example) which would make up the first wave. Then, a second wave would take another boat with the Malledhrim (Siggar, Gwenethwyn, Thalaranc and perhaps even Lifolf) and cross the river at a different time. I have thought about that to be honest and we could find an RP reason to do so, but I have not suggested it because it would mean the group would have to be split up IC. Although this has happened before as I recall from past conversations (could be wrong though) I feel it would be best for the Company to undertake these kind of endeavors as a whole or with minimum absences. Now, Thala and Sig will be missing and potentially also Gwen and Kasey, which makes half of the regulars. After all, advancing the Epic together is the very reason of Club Slowtro's existence!

A thread about maximizing RP would be most welcome and very interesting to my eyes, Lir. But as Raids/Instances are optional for our members, so is maximizing RP. And I feel it's only fair that we compromise on that part ourselves and merely start this thread as a food for thought, not as a rule to be followed from now on. I would love to contribute and read about interesting ideas there though.

I would like to close my post with this suggestion: Wait some more days (until Friday or Saturday would be a good interval) for Kasey's and Gwen's response for the 'RP Epic Mirkwood landing' event.
- If they can make it at the 6th, the crossing should happen and Thalaranc with Siggar will cross the Anduin later.
- If even one of them cannot, that would mean that 3 out of the regulars will be absent and the date should be changed.

I hope I'm not being too persistent or as Lir has better put it, passionate. If it feels like it, it's probably because I care a lot about this club (as many of you too) and can't help but express my ideas. If you feel I'm being too persistent, next time be sure to slap Thala on the face :P

Haha, now I do...

I have three points I would like to make:

1., Role-playing
Rather than being a restrictive element in slowtro (as we are not Heavy RP and have not a great number of rules when it comes to role-playing), this actually offers a lot of opportunities. We can play the same event multiple times but later refer to it as if we were all there and experienced it at the same time. We can play it as two or more separate journeys and occasions. We can also just play through it and never include it in our personal story lines (like Thal only joined us in Lórien, Kasey and myself in Angmar or Dura skipped most of Moria other than the Scourge of Khazad-dûm, etc.).
As long as we all have fun doing it it's all good.

2., Event Planning
I would like to 'join' Lir and J in pointing out that members have the same permissions when it comes to advertising/organizing events here or in-game. We are all equal in this regard and everyone is free to set up their own events/stories for us to join and experience. It shouldn't be a case of 'I would like to see more RP so let's see what's on the menu... ah let's wait another week then *sad face*'.
Officers are here to try and maintain balanced yet appealing sessions every week for the Club - aka Slowtro Night -, reoccuring on Wednesdays. This takes into consideration polls and the success we had with different types of events in the past. Everything outside of that is considered 'extra'.
Some feels there is not enough variety some can't (or couldn't) even join the one weekly session for whatever reason. It comes down to each and every one of us to make the most of the Club. I tend to set up group instances mostly as that is where I feel most comfortable. If RP is more your thing, all it takes is a couple of clicks to let us know when it occurs, the company is guaranteed ;)

3., Raids
Let us move away from the 'Raiding vs RP' sentiment for a moment, please! (And I mean that in the nicest way possible.)
Nearly all Raids are part of the core conflict in LOTRO, in each expansion they represent some sort of final battle and provide concluding 'answers' to many of the story arcs presented throughout the corresponding content (be it Questing, Reputation, Session Play, etc.). I would go as far as saying it is elementary for someone that wishes to experience it all.
Providing people with the opportunity to play through content on-level is also one of the Club's commitments. Most of us would not have this opportunity otherwise.
Doing Raid content occasionally or striving to get a big baddie down once or twice does not make our group 'Raiders'. It does however require some commitment and practice especially when we are constantly braving them with half size groups. So this will happen on Tier 1 difficulty every few months for the expansions we are currently on to see that part of the story unfold. Given of course there is interest and we have a capable group for it 😆.

Yours Best ;)

As with real life Thal, not everyone is going to be at every meeting we ever have.
It is totally acceptable that we would have stragglers crossing the Anduin at different times... Even amongst the wisest, Gandalf could not make the meeting in Bree with the four hobbits and by chance they met someone else.

I switch between Dura/Kiri depending on how I feel they would be in the story. Kiri doesnt really feel any particular urge to help the Elves, Dura is only in Moria because of necessity. Even the company in the book had different agendas when they left Rivendell/Lothlorien. WE know we are going to Mirkwood then back to Enedwaith... but our characters dont.

So what I am saying, is use the opportunity of expanding on your story instead of seeing it as you will be missing something.

Kasey's and Gwen's response for the 'RP Epic Mirkwood landing' event.

Well, I'm back to training on Wednesday nights from next week so likely won't be free for Slowtro nights for the forseeable future 😟. Sundays should still be no problemo but as far as RP'ing the Mirkwood Landing Kasey may have to make such a venture alone (perhaps he found himself separated from the group, likely due to oversleeping/wandering off after a sizeable breakfast).

At the risk of derailing the thread, has there been talk of pushing recruitment? I posted on the LotRO subreddit a few months back and got some interested responses. I'm aware that we have the forum post but the occasional announcement in /world may garner attention? Currently our collection of turtles is susceptible to one or two people going on hols/having commitments and as with many things, the more the merrier

Hmm interesting suggestion J, expanding the story. I'll try to make the most out of it.

We'll miss you on Wednesdays, Kasey. It won't be the same without our Burglar :)

Sig, we'll talk more in-game about crossing over the Anduin. I'd be happy to take the boat with you as well!

Regarding T2: I'm interested to test how strong and overpowered is my character :) I really like to feel that all time that I spent on character development returns me great result! 3 or 6 men T2 instances are good enough for this, raids would be great but of course I know that this is not our first target - I really like tries that we done with Sig and Lir and hope to continue them

So the story moves on.
Just to reiterate what was said last night. We will not be raising level cap just now, but will be advancing the storyline into Mirkwood. The reasoning is we still have some people who wish to finish DN on level and Mirkwood landing will not require us to be any higher level.

Sunday, 3rd Sept will see us advance into Mirkwood and begin the instanced area.
The nearest 'event' we have that requires a level will be the Skirmishes in the Epic that begin at 62. Im thinking that we should pencil this requirement in for 13th Sept

The actual level raise I will leave at others discretion as to sometime after Sunday night depending on who wants to do DN on level. If you think getting to 62 before 13th Sept will be a problem then please post here.

By the beginning of October I would like to move the storyline on to outside of Dol Guldur and being level 65 proper. This will give us say a month doing DG instances, then a month at Enedwaith. Not entirely sure how people want to incorperate all the other instances available at 65 like Stoneheight and North Cotton Farms etc. Also aware people have Moria stuff to do like Halls of Crafting and instance deeds.
Perhaps someone else can post up some events for further nights rather than logging in and hoping for something to do if they have these on their wishlist.

Hello Folks,

Firstly, followed by some time spent with reflection, I would like to apologize for an oversight of mine, namingly that despite wiki's info Mirkwood skirmishes can be launched at level 60. While the Plan would have possibly been rolled out differently if I had that knowledge before, given the Members' joint effort the Officers concluded that there will be no changes made. I Thank You all for understanding!

Some of you, including myself, have already hit level 65 and thus received numerous letters from various NPCs around Middle-earth. Specifically speaking you should have received 2 Quest items as attachment via Mail and an invitation (just like the one you received from the Lady Galadriel - 'On behalf of the Golden Host' when you hit level 60). The former are vectors to initiate the ITA Instance Cluster and the RoI Expansion (Dúnland). The latter is from Pethelen, titled 'An Urgent Summons', responsible for kicking off Volume III of the Epic (Allies of the King).
I would like to kindly ask everyone NOT to follow up these quests as of yet as their events only transpire - chronologically speaking - following our current adventures in Mirkwood!

We will likely complete Volume II (including the Epilouge - Of Elves and Dwarves) by the end of September. This will include the corresponding skirmishes and possibly the Instances on Tier I difficulty as organized events while solo landscape questing is encouraged in Mirkwood.
We will then allow about 2 weeks for completing various deeds and the Raid of the SoM Expansion, Barad Guldur on Tier I difficulty.
By mid-October we should be heading back to Eriador to pick up the above mentioned Volume that will eventually bring us to Enedwaith for another month of Epic storytelling and landscape questing (optional reputation grind and grouping at Thrór's Coomb).
November should see us traveling back to Eriador as part of the (SPOILERS in both of the following links!) ITA chain to defend the free folk from a mysterious threat...

The above is a tight schedule so we might slip into December and delay the kick off for Dúnland. Adjustments to be expected as we progress.

Do not forget to Have a lot of Fun in the process! ;)

I must say, my motivation to level up Legendaries and get equipment is much greater given we will get the benefit of the equipment for longer.

Thalas FA weapon should last at least until level 70... then a new grind begins at 75 :p

my reading is we have got here a wee bit ahead of ourselves and I for one am struggling to catch up. these things happen. my humble suggestion for discussion would be to move chapters 14 & 15 to next week and finsish the mirkwood epic the following week with some rp then the ch18 skirm leading us into the instances in October...?

thoughts as they say?

PS
I have no idea about the northcotton farm chain but it looks interesting, maybe we could do that before heading to enedwaith? both have been set up by letters from Imladris,,,,?
